To begin laying the groundwork for your success, you need to start with
the premise that all it takes to become successful is to give people what
they want. It’s a lot easier and a lot cheaper than trying to convince
people that they should want what you happen to be selling!
So what do people using the internet want more than
anything?
Two words:
Free Information.
I know this might be disappointing to a lot of people
who want to believe that people sit down at their computer with their
credit card already out, but most people don’t go online because they
want to buy anything. The most common thing people want when they
go online is free information.
That’s why Yahoo and Google have become multi-billion
dollar companies. All the search engines do is give people what they want
–an easy way to find the information that they’re looking for. Once somebody
types in a search phrase in Yahoo or Google, the search engines will immediately
give them a complete list of all the web pages on the internet that have
the information they’re searching for. This means that as long as you
are providing information that a lot of people want, you will attract
visitors to your website. This is the fundamental principle of internet
marketing. This is the second step of the "magic formula" that
makes a few people "in the know" very rich…..
Quality Content
= Constant Targeted Traffic
If you went out today and stood on
a street corner passing out $20 bills to people, how long do you think
it would be before you were surrounded by a crowd of people? The
same is true for online marketers. Except instead of passing out $20 bills
to a crowd of people, you’ve decided to publish a website in an attempt
to attract the crowd. Only problem is, to get the crowd to come to your
site, you need to have something at your site that they want. And what
do they want? Quality content that’s specifically
targeted to their particular area of interest. Without this your website
is dead in the water.
This area of interest is often referred to as a "niche"
in internet marketing. The second step of the "secret formula"
simply reinforces what should be obvious –people will come to your website
in droves if you give them what they want, which is quality content that
will help them solve their immediate problems.
So where can you get quality content
that will attract visitors to your website like a school of hungry fish
at feeding time?
You only have two choices –one will cost you time,
and the other will cost you money. You can write and produce the content
yourself, or you can get it from somebody else. If you follow Ken Envoy’s
strategy and have an SBI site, it might take you a year or so, but at
some point you’ll have a nice website with a lot of quality content that
generates some "organic" traffic for you every month. And as
long as Google and Yahoo don’t change their search engine algorithms,
you might fight your way up to a decent ranking and make a couple of hundred
bucks a month in Adsense or affiliate income. But do you really think
this is the strategy that most successful online entrepreneurs used to
get to the top? Me neither….
Reality Hits!
The truth is, I’ve tried building my own content by
writing my own articles. Like a lot of other things, it seemed like a
good idea at the time! Pretty soon it becomes obvious (maybe after writing
the first 5 or 10 articles) that it’s a royal pain in the butt to have
to come up with new ideas for articles every day that are QUALITY articles
that will help other people solve their problems. The fact is that nobody
is an expert on everything. Even if you could write articles in a niche
that you were an expert in, you’d eventually run out of content. One person
can only give out a limited amount of quality information!
So how do you come up with quality content month after
month that will attract people to your website and have you making money?
Well, if you don’t write it yourself, the only other choice is to buy
it. But buying articles can be very expensive, and you’re never sure what
you’re going to get. Go ahead and check out Elance right now to get a
flavor for how much it costs to get decent articles. I researched this
and found out that typically a 800-word article might cost $5 - $10. This
means it would cost me $100 - $200 dollars of month just to come up with
20 measly pages of fresh content every month. It didn’t take long to do
the math in my head to figure out that after a year I’d spend close to
$2000 just to have about 250 pages of content. At this rate I’d be better
off writing the articles myself and saving the money.
So what’s the answer? If writing your
own articles takes too long, and buying articles one at a time costs too
much money (and takes too much time) how do the successful people become
successful?
I was thinking about this when
I was driving into Cincinnati one afternoon to visit my son. I drove past
a Wal-Mart and scratched my head, wondering how a guy from Arkansas could
have somehow started out selling stuff in a hardware store and ended up
creating a global empire that employs more people than any other company
in the world. Then the light bulb went off above my head. It’s the third
step in the "magic formula." It’s something that offline marketers
take for granted, but online marketers don’t usually think about. The
third step of the "magic formula" for making money is simply
this:
Buy Wholesale,
Sell Retail
Suddenly it became obvious how to build content-rich
website that would draw in tons of targeted traffic, and be able to do
it quickly and affordably. It’s the same strategy that Sam Walton used
to make Wal-Mart the biggest company in the world. I had to find a
way to buy the content at wholesale prices. This meant spending more
money up front, but it’s the only thing that made sense. When you buy
large quantities of any commodity you get pricing discounts. This enabled
me to accomplish two things:
1) It allowed me to get tons of quality content for
my websites, and
2) It allowed me to fill my websites with content
faster than I ever thought possible.
So what I did was look for somebody who was selling
rights to large numbers of articles at wholesale prices. I also was looking
for somebody who was limiting the distribution of these articles so that
they wouldn’t be diluting the value of the content by flooding the market.
Luckily, I found just the right source and I was able to get an entire
inventory of quality, keyword-targeted articles at wholesale prices. As
they say, the rest is history!
Once I saw the value of buying content at wholesale
prices I instantly realized that I could be the Sam Walton of private
label articles. I would do all the work on the front end finding the content
and the suppliers, and because I would buy in quantity, I would be able
to pass the savings to anybody else that needed quality, focused content
for their websites. This is the fourth step in the "magic formula."
Success Comes
from Creating Win-Win Situations
You see, most people selling stuff on the internet
are merely trying to jump in and be a "middle man" without adding
any value in the process. What I wanted to do was different. I didn’t
set out to be a "middle man" –I set out to be a distributor
of quality content. I’d get the content wholesale, and sell it retail
for a small profit. This way my customers win because they get good content
for their websites at a fraction of the money they would have to spend
if they would buy the content themselves, and I would be able to expand
my "inventory" every month by putting some of the profits back
into getting even more articles for my customers.
Once I realized this, it became obvious that the way
to set this up was by creating a membership site. The idea would be that
I would have a private article service that I would strictly limit to
a select group of members. Each month the members would get new articles
they could immediately use to draw traffic to their websites. This way
instead of paying a freelance writer $100 bucks a month for a couple dozen
articles, the members to my site could pay me a small monthly fee and
have access to a lot more articles. The reason this works is because the
members are in effect splitting the costs of the articles every month,
and I’m getting paid to find the articles and organize them for my members.
Just like every other successful business, it’s a win-win situation for
everybody involved!
So my goal was to set out to provide my members with
tons of fresh quality content they could use right away on their sites.
But just how much was "a ton?" Well, when I first started my
first thought was that if I could have 250 articles on my site after a
year, I’d be doing pretty good. So I decided that I would set the goal
of providing my members with 250 articles… except I didn’t want them to
wait a year. So I arranged it with my supplier to get 250 articles
a month for my members. Instead of having a total of 250 pages
of quality content in a year, my members have 3,000 pages of articles
in a year, with each page having targeted Adsense ads generating income!
Next I wanted to make sure that I could make this
affordable for my members. I figured that to buy these 3,000 articles
at retail price it would cost people at minimum $15,000. I then estimated
how much Adsense income people might be able to bring in for each page.
Even if people averaged only $0.05 a day in Adsense income from each article,
that would be $150 a day in passive income for all 3,000 pages. This time
I used my calculator to do the math…. that comes out to $54,750 a year
in passive Adsense income. Even if people bought the articles at the "retail"
price of $15,000, they could still more than TRIPLE their investment in
less than a year if they only averaged a nickel a day in Adsense revenue
from each page!
Now I started to get really excited about this whole
idea of being a wholesale supplier of quality content because I realized
I’d be able to help people just like you and me become successful generating
passive income from the internet. Heck, even if they only made half of
what I estimated they might be able to make, that’s still over $2000 a
month in passive income.
When I realized that I could help a lot of people,
I also realized that I had to make a decision. I knew if people could
make $2000 a month from the content I was providing they’d be willing
to pay me several hundred dollars a month for the content. The retail
price for 250 articles a month would be at least $1,250. Even taking into
account that people might be justifiably skeptical until they saw the
results for themselves, I figured that I’d be able to get a decent number
of people to pay about $200 - $300 a month for this service. And once
they started seeing results, I would be able to increase the price I charged
and limit the number of members I had.
But I also had to balance this with my desire to help
as many people as I could without diluting the effectiveness of the content.
To get right to the point, I decided instead of charging $250 for the
articles ($1 an article every month), I’d let people become members for
only $47 a month. I also decided that I would limit my memberships to
only 500 people. This way I could make a decent living as the supplier,
and I could also make sure the value of the articles wasn’t diluted by
providing these articles to thousands of people.
I also understand that some people might be skeptical
about the whole concept, so I decided to create a free membership level
